"I think that the rain is unbiased and the recipient of this downfall has the option to accept this or yell at the clouds his whole life."
Dr. Christie Powell "CP” PT, MSPT, PhD, STS, RRSC, FMS I, FMS II, USSF ‘D’
CP is the owner and Director of Champion Performance Physical Therapy for the past 21 years. CP grew up in Austin competing in soccer, basketball and volleyball at Westwood High School. She played collegiate soccer and softball at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio and has since been inducted to their hall of fame for her success as an athlete and her exceptional accomplishments in her community since her graduation in 1996. In 2001 she received her Masters in Physical Therapy from Texas State University. She completed her dissertation on the use of functional performance measures to predict injury in the lower extremity in soccer players. It is based on a comprehensive test battery she designed, and uses in the clinic, as a pre-participation screening tool to assess when a player is ready to return to sport. Her PhD is in Rehabilitation & Movement Science from The University of Texas at Austin.
CP has multiple publications including a Special Topics chapter “Functional Measures for Lower Extremity Injuries: A Guide to a Safe Return to Sport” in the Handbook of Orthopaedic Rehabilitation 3rd edition published by local orthopedic surgeon Dr. Brent Brotzman. She was also recently published in the Journal of Sport Rehabilitation on return-to-sport rehabilitation and assessment. Her interest in research and education has extended to public speaking engagements focusing on injury prevention and maintenance for associations such as NSCA, ACSM and Camp Gladiator.
CP’s experience as a collegiate athlete and her passion for education, people, and movement have created a unique environment at Champion Performance for all those who walk in the door.
